There is some kind of existential lessons in the absolute silence and icy cold of the Swiss Alps as I experienced during the 18 months in the Ticino Alps with the pandemic. The daily chore of having to split 8 meters of wood to keep warm became a little symphony, as the split beech wood fell apart, creating a soundscape in the harsh winter’s quietness.

This became the idea for the performance of Spalt, bringing a certain kind of monotonous yet meditative rhythm within the wood splitting act in front of the audience as a musical performance, at the same time, also resulting in printed images.
