Beschreibung

Tropf are an installation of 5 stones, made to sound by dripping water. The different speed within the dripping frequencies results in a complex rhythm, which settles into a grooving sequence.

The longer that I’ve worked with this sound installation, the more aware I become to the intensity of the connection within life in all its fullness. Abstract musical concepts that are close to nature always occupy my mind when composing and creating sound installations, as influenced by my experience touring through Iceland, Japan, Indonesia and China. These resonating stones was found during a prominent time in my artistic work in 2009 where I rode my bicycle through the Valee de l’Ubaye in the Southern Alps, over a field full of sounding stone slabs. The stones that I selected were hewn by snow and blistering heat for thousands, millions of years, stuck in a cycle of eternal decay. Water and stone, entangled in such a dynamic, at the same time, to destroy and build each other. Within this installation, water and stone, again, entangled to collaborate with each other to make sound. The sound of these stones was coherent to how I feel in that moment, manifesting the movements of sediments, throughout the years of pressure that finally pushed back up into life.

Tropf therefore opens human perception and shows us how small and limited our field of vision and hearing, as well as our mind is when it comes to geological or physical concepts of time.
